Transport Problems in Karachi

KARACHI: Up to 25 per cent of people in Karachi have their own transport and 60 per cent of this chunk own motorcycles, according to Syed Nadeem Arif of Environmental Management Consultants during a presentation on the city’s transport woes on Thursday.

The cost of the mass transit study is Rs370 million and Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA) will give Rs356 million while the rest will be shared by the Sindh and city district governments.
According to me the transport problem in Karachi arises due to lack of transit provided by government. Karachi is a metropolitan and it requires mass transit which supports its citizens and they do not go for personal vehicles & motorcycles. It is also expected that a high percentage of motorcycle owners will buy cars, which will further worsen the situation in the city. The only solution to the problem is that the government should provide mass transit which is so safe & comfortable that people prefer to travel through transport which results the solution in transport problems and pollution will also reduced.
