Republic, Advantages & Disadvantages

Republic

A republic is led by representatives of the voters. Each is individually chosen for a set period of time. Countries where Republic form of government is practiced are USA, Serbia, Venezuela, Bangladesh, and France.

Advantages:

·         The people get to vote for their government officials.

·         One person doesn't have too much power.

·         Government leaders can be impeached for unlawful behavior.

·         Amendments may be made to the governing laws.

Disadvantages:

·         Majority wins so many do not have preferred representative.

·         Rules set in stone are very hard to change with the times, but can't be altered for just any reason.

·         Not a democracy, so minority viewpoints may be ignored.
