Dawn News, which once prided itself on being the country’s first English-language news channel, has decided to turn into a full-fledged Urdu language channel.
Dawn News started an Urdu transmission from 8:00 to 11:00 pm a few months ago and later increased this to 12 hours. Now, the change appears complete as the channel will have programming solely in Urdu. The most cited reason for this transition is the financial difficulty of running an English language channel in a market dominated by Urdu language news and entertainment channels.
Few months back Express 24/7 also came to cater THE NEWS AS IT HAPPENS, Now this is an advantage for Express 24/7 because they are now the ONLY English news channel. I hope that EXPRESS 24/7 will survive. They first were backed by an urdu news channel and urdu newspaper and then came up with the English news channel EXPRESS 24/7. In my opinion Dawn news must atleast keep an hour or two for english talk shows and bulletin.
